LESTER PIGGOTT: HIS CLASSIC STORY (Same as "LESTER PIGGOTT: A CLASSIC TRIBUTE" Except This is the Original 1981 Version)
Lester Piggott is the greatest jockey the world has ever known. In a career spanning over 40 years, he dominated the sport of flat racing becoming the housewife's choice, the punter's favorite and the man his fellow jockeys feared above all others.
In the 1984 St. Leger at Doncaster, Lester powered home the resolute COMMANCHE RUN to break Frank Buckle's long-standing record of 27 Classic wins. In his 50th year he added another Classic when partnering SHADEED to victory in the 2,000 Guineas before starting what everyone thought was to be a glorious retirement.
However in 1990 at the age of 54, Lester stunned the racing world by resuming his riding career after completing a two-year prison sentence. Like everything in Lester's riding life, his comeback was triumphant, culminating in his 30th and final Classic success on RODRIGO DE TRIANO, appropriately owned by Robert Sangster.
This film is a historical tribute to Piggott's Classic record-breaking performance and includes coverage of all his Classic victories. Interspersed with interviews with many of the great names in racing including the legendary Vincent O'Brien, Clive Brittain, and the voice of racing Sir Peter O'Sullevan; this documentary is a must for all racing enthusiasts.
