TVG's LEGENDS: LAFFIT PINCAY, JR.
In this installment, retired jockey and host Gary Stevens welcomes Hall-of-Fame jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr., as his guest.
In 1966, "The Pirate", left Panama for the United States with a burning desire to win and that passion fueled his rise to greatness carrying him through home sickness, injuries and slumps with weight problems. 9,530 victories later, he retired as the sports all-time leading rider. Along the way he captured six Eclipse Awards, seven Breeders' Cup races, three Belmonts and one Kentucky Derby. Those are the numbers - it's the goal of "Legends" to give you a sense of the man.
Laffit recounts some of the most memorable highlights in his career starting off with stories of legendary owner, Fred Hooper, who jumpstarted Laffit's career by noticing him in Panama and bringing him here to the States to ride in Chicago. Horses that stood out in Laffit's career that are touched upon include AFFIRMED, SWALE, BAYAKOA, SKYWALKER, SKY JACK and LAZY LODE. And most importantly, Laffit's take on the story alleging that he cut up a single peanut in four pieces for dinner on a red-eye flight with trainer D. Wayne Lukas - truth or fiction. Watch and see!
