2004 ECLIPSE AWARDS (Entire Televised Broadcast)
Eclipse Awards are bestowed upon the Thoroughbred horses and individuals whose outstanding achievements have earned them the title of Champion in their respective divisions. The Eclipse Awards are named after the great 18th Century racehorse and foundation sire ECLIPSE, who began racing at age five and was undefeated in eighteen starts, including eight walkovers. ECLIPSE sired the winners of 344 races, including three Epsom Derbies.
Thoroughbred racing's night of champions took place at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California; a night of not too many surprises as so many horses were stand-outs in their divisions:
Watch as AZERI goes out on top...her third Eclipse award in a row...beating out an almost-equal in SIGHTSEEK and STORM FLAG FLYING in the Distaff...this award a fitting parting gift for the sports all-time leading female money earner.
SWEET CATOMINE towering over her peers in the Juvenile Fillies
DECLAN'S MOON just making a case for himself towards the end of the year to just clinch the Juvenile division
Outstanding Three-Year-Old's Euro-based filly OUIJA BOARD and the U.S.' KITTEN'S JOY bested their older rivals taking Turf Divisions for their respective sexes.
GHOSTZAPPER overshadowing all-comers for the Older Male Horse division.
SMARTY JONES overriding BIRDSTONE for Three-Year-Old Male.
ASHADO hands-down the Three-Year-Old Female.
And of course, the most anticipated category of Horse-of-the-Year going to the older and more accomplished/versatile GHOSTZAPPER over the three-year-old sensation SMARTY JONES giving his owner/breeder FRANK STRONACH his third Eclipse award for the night.
And don't forget the awards for these equine's human connections: TODD PLETCHER taking top trainer, JOHN VALAZQUEZ leading jockey, FRANK STRONACH breeder and Ken and Sarah Ramsey taking home the Eclipse for 2004 Outstanding Owners and so much more!
The Eclipse Awards are presented by the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, National Turf Writers Association and the Daily Racing Form. The Eclipse Awards give us a chance to reflect on the best equine and human performances of the year; the goal is to tell the stories behind the most pivotal moments and players in Thoroughbred racing and make the viewer feel as though he or she is right there in the room with the athletes and others who make our sport great!
Don't miss the excitement of the culmination of another year of great racing...the 2004 ECLIPSE AWARDS!
