WOODIE's WORLD: SECRETARIAT w/BONUS
SECRETARIAT, who fulfilled the promise of a dream, was Woody's all-time favorite athlete and this show includes footage from his birthplace at Meadow Stable in Doswell, Virginia; his racing career, and his life in retirement at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. Woody discovered SECRETARIAT by accident when reporting on his more famous stablemate, RIVA RIDGE, in 1972, thus following this soon-to-be Triple Crown winner by chance before he really hit the racing radar.
This is the definitive SECRETARIAT piece; there is footage from CBS News and CBS Sports and watching this will be like reliving history with the poetic language of Heywood Hale Broun.
AS AN ADDES BONUS...a very obscure second mini "Woodie's World" segment focusing on SECRETARIAT in retirement at Claiborne Farm showing some of his foals from his first crop is included at the end of the original full-length feature in addition to a lengthy "60 Minutes Sports" piece that aired in 2013 featuring owner Penny Chenery (Tweedy) and jockey Ron Turcotte as they look back on the 40th anniversary of SECRETARIAT's Triple Crown win.
