MIGHTY FOREGO
Clairborne Farm, the home of NASRULLAH - the King among Thoroughbred stallions. NASRULLAH was succeeded by his most famous son, BOLD RULER - who produced 82 stakes winners. And his most famous son, SECRETARIAT - the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, was retired after his 3-year-old season and is shown taking up residence in his sire's former stall. A much less heralded champion - South America's Horse-of-the-Year, FORLI, was also brought to Claiborne Farm (rare footage of FORLI is shown in his paddock at Claiborne Farm).
In the summer of 1969, FORLI was bred to LADY GOLCONDA (by HASTY ROAD), a minor stakes winning mare, and on April 30, 1970, she dropped a gangly bay colt - little did they realize that in several years most experts would rank him with the best handicap horses of all generations.
This is FOREGO's story, starting from his humble beginnings...growing into the champion he became showing countless races through his storied career of 34 wins in 57 starts and earnings of nearly $2 million...his final New York appearance when he lead the field of the 1978 Marlboro Cup (which consisted of two Triple Crown winners, SEATTLE SLEW and AFFIRMED)...and on to his well deserved retirement from racing at John Ward's farm in Kentucky due to chronic infirmities.
