FLYING HOOFS (1946 Short Subject Film)

A very rare short subject film from Columbia Pictures, “World of Sports”, that focuses on horse racing as it was over 70 years ago; great vintage footage on the care of racehorses and the training of jockeys.

This delightful feature complete with music score from the 1940's is narrated by Bill Stern and starts off by showing extremely rare film footage of the prized Calumet horses stabled at beautiful Hialeah Race Track during feeding time early in the morning as famed trainers Ben and Jimmy Jones (father and son team, the "Jones Boys") are shown. All the horses' heads are perky and alert outside their stalls waiting for their breakfast.

Next, the viewer is given a rare look at the string of Calumet horses being trained in company of three horses at a time on the track and being schooled at the gate all under the keen and watchful eyes of both Ben and Jimmy Jones giving the instructions.

As this feature continues, famed trainers Hirsch Jacobs and "Sunny" Jim Fitzsimmons are also shown looking over their string of horses as well as rare backside footage of barn scenes, horses being bathed and groomed, jockeys mingling with their agents outside of the Hialeah Administrative Office, the jockeys' room with scenes of the sweat shop and silks room and trainer Ben Jones having a conversation with Calumet owner, Warren Wright, in addition to historic footage of vintage cars driving up to Hialeah on a big race day and of course, the unique paddock and pink flamingos in the track infield.

A wonderful production that reflects on Hialeah when it ruled supreme back in racings golden years can be yours!
